Super Bowl Tickets

By Seth Taylor

The Super Bowl is the National Football League Championship Game for the prized Lombardi Trophy.  It pits the winner from the National Football Conference (NFC) against the American Football Conference winner.

The Super Bowl first began in 1967 between the NFL and AFL which were two separate leagues during that time.  Each league champion would play against the other in the AFL-NFL World Championship game.  The leagues then merged in 1970 to form the NFL, or National Football League.

Rise in Popularity

The popularity of the Super Bowl has surged over the years.  Ticket prices for the first Super Bowl could be gotten for a face value $6-$12 dollars in 1967.  Now face value Super Bowl ticket prices have skyrocketed to $800 - $1000.

Advertisers pay millions of dollars for 30 second spots in the Super Bowl.  The Super Bowl has becom the most popular and in demand event in the U.S.

Forbes list the Super Bowl as pulling in revenues of $379 million.  You can take the other two major sports championships NBA ($47 million per day) and MLB ($56 million per day) and combine their totals and the Super Bowl still triples their totals.

How to Get Tickets

So how do you get Super Bowl tickets.  Well first let me explain how to get face value tickets.

Okay, hold your horses.  Don’t get too excited!  It is possible to get face value Super Bowl tickets but technically it is also possible to win the lottery.

In fact in order to get face value tickets from the NFL there is actually a lottery that takes place.  There is a random drawing every year.

To enter the drawing you have to send in your name and address through certified mail only between February and June 1 in the year prior to the Super Bowl.  If you are selected you will have the chance to purchase 2 tickets.  They only select one entry per address.

You send the request to the following address:

Super Bowl Random Drawing
P.O. Box 49140
Strongsville, OH 44149-0140

Now the more common way for the general public to get tickets involve deep pockets up to 10x face value.  But if you have the money then the best way to purchase them is through a reliable broker.  I would stay away from scalpers in big games like this because there is so much fraud prevalent.
